Making Cutting Edge Tech User-Friendly

Designing for new tech is an exciting challenge, but sometimes in the pursuit of looking cutting edge, designs can lose their usability. With Performa, I wanted to make a product that felt sleek and tech-forward without sacrificing usability by cramming in too many buttons and design elements that would detract from its usage.

To achieve this, I focused on creating a minimalist interface that emphasizes intuitive navigation and clear visual hierarchy. By prioritizing essential features and streamlining the user journey, the app not only looks modern but also enhances the user experience by making it easy to access key functionalities without overwhelming the user.

Impactful Signup Screen

Light and dark mode versions of the app sign up screen that displays the brand-specific value proposition in a clear and impactful way. Focuses on expressing the brand's aesthetic personality as well as communicating effectively what users will gain by signing up.

Defining the Problem

Problem:
Many fitness enthusiasts struggle with structuring their workouts, staying motivated, and tracking their progress efficiently. Existing workout apps often lack personalization, seamless navigation, and engaging UI/UX, making it challenging for users to stay consistent.
Solution:
This Performa AI-powered workout app addresses these issues by providing tailored workout plans, interactive guidance, and a visually cohesive experience that adapts to users’ needs—helping them stay on track and achieve their fitness goals with ease.
Research Methods Used
Reading users' likes and dislikes of other popular workout apps on online forums such as Reddit, Quora, and Facebook groups.
Wifeframe to Prototype

I wanted to use a simple wireframe as the basis for this design; I used a classic heirarchy and typography layout to bring to life a functional and familiar feeling main dashboard layout, which is made more unique through the use of a subtle light green radial gradient behind the card indicating the main user flow.

Also, research shows that on lighter backgrounds, text appears thinner and on darker background it looks bolder. This is an optical illusion effect that I corrected across the light and dark modes by spreading out body texdt slightly on dark mode, and by using slightly thinner font styles.

Guided Workout Screens

This screen guides users through each exercise with clear visual demonstrations and concise instructions, ensuring proper form and effectiveness. A progress bar at the top keeps users motivated, while easy navigation between exercises minimizes friction. The design reduces cognitive load by keeping instructions simple and visually appealing.

Brand Identity

For the brand identity I wanted to showcase the the functionality of the product and let the brand identity take on a more subtle role. Using a clean and minimal wordmark as the main logo in a geometric sans-serif font that has a futuristic feel to it with a mostly neutral color palette with two shades of a pop of electric green to create a vibrant yet neutral-heavy brand identity. Using the radial gradient with the electric green color creates a feeling of rebirth, of newness, and adds a pop of color that breaks up the simplicity of the rest of the layouts and brand identity.
